i'm sorry i haven't posted in a while. i've been really busy trying to keep up with all my classes and my free time is just evaporating. however, i'm getting three rolls of film back soon, so expect a massive update to this blog really soon. i also have an essay that i wrote for my english class, and i might post that if anyone wants to read it.

here are some senior portraits i took of my friend bee in riverside, way back in november.

these little boys were so cute. they had accidentally thrown their ball over the fence, and as we walked by them, i picked it up and threw it back. i asked them their names and they asked us ours, and then i took their picture. as we were walking away to go take pictures of bee by the lake, one of them shouted "i love you, lady!"

i am so envious of her kitten purse. it's adorable.

my friend bailey came over to my house on january sixteenth to model for some pictures. initially, i had been planning on doing a completely different sort of 1950s shoot with a borrowed bunny rabbit, but things didn't work out and the borrowing got canceled at the last minute, so i had to kind of throw this idea together when bailey arrived. other than wishing some of them were in better focus, i'm actually pretty happy with how these turned out overall.

on january fourteenth, the day after we got back from our trip, chris came over and joined lexi and i on a goodbye walk with gabrielle. it makes me sad to think that i might not see her again for a whole 'nother year--that is much too long! after we bid our farewells, lexi drove us back home and i convinced chris to model for pictures in the woods.

he insisted we take some together. i only wish my face didn't look so stupid in these first three.

here are some photos from a little trip we took up to northern california from january 10th through to the 13th. my father had some business to attend to in sacramento for the first two days, and then we stopped in to visit relatives in chico for last two days. it was all shirley temples and hotel mischief and late night phone calls to special someones in the staircase for me.

things have been really good lately. i've been taking more pictures of my memories than ever before and i have a real photo shoot planned for monday which might involve a white rabbit. i'm also planning two other shoots that should hopefully happen any time this month. i'm so excited i could burst. i feel like a much happier person this year. i mean, i still have my sad moments, but everything in general just feels so much nicer. anyways, here are some pictures from a bonfire in the bidwell's backyard, way back in early december:

chris lives in california and he plays music and jessee lives in chicago and she plays music and sometimes they play music in the same place together and it's called paper st. they came over to my house on christmas eve and i took pictures of them for an album they might be releasing. here are some of my favorites from the shoot:

christmas eve eve. we started the day thrifting in old town temecula. it was me, lexi, gabrielle, and christopher, who came down all the way from chicago just to spend a couple days with us. separately we are separate, but when gabrielle and lexi and i get together, it's like a tri-force of indie-manic-pixie-dream-girl that tumblr boys just cannot ignore.

we swung by our house for a little while afterwards, and christopher proceeded to make a mess going through my record collection and picking out "the essentials." christopher is definitely robert osborne in disguise, you guys. i'm onto him.

two of my very favorite people in the world are in a band called paper st. and after a nice dinner with christopher's dad, we headed over to see them play a gig at flour fusion. it was a party and a half! i really do adore those two.

i asked these little flour fusion craft elves in the back if i could take their picture, and then two minutes later, without knowing that i had taken their picture, jessee said that i should take their picture. jessee is my spirit animal.

just a few of my favorite pictures from chris's nineteenth birthday party two weeks ago. he left for canada the next morning and ended up being in oregon on the eighteenth, which is his actual birthday. when he came back on christmas eve eve, he told me that he bought a disposable camera and took pictures and he's giving it to me as a present as soon as he takes the last couple pictures. what a darling!

chris wrote a banjo song based on one of my drawings, but he refuses to play it for me as it isn't finished yet.

today was lovely. and i hate saying the word lovely all the time, but it really was. today was one of those rare days where everything makes you feel good about being a human being. this morning i cleaned my room and sat on my bed and basked in all the white lights from all the clouds that reflect into my bedroom when it is clean and make it feel shiny new and daisy fresh. i listened to simon and garfunkel and i read and read and read and then i decided that we have always lived in the castle is my new favorite book.

jonathan came over in the afternoon and we went exploring with manny. the lake hadn't filled, even though it had been raining kitties and puppies all week long, so i was a little sad; but we continued walking and i remembered dearest sybil, a horse i used to visit a very long time ago, when i was alone, and i needed a friend.

sybil is a gentle soul. sybil has long hair and honest eyes. i feel that if sybil were a person, sybil would be my favorite person. but since sybil is just a horse, sybil is just my favorite horse.

i lit candles. we played games. we were seven again. and my teddy bear, who has been left inanimate for years, was alive again, and introduced, and i could hear him talking to me.

and my mother made my favorite dinner. she made it because i asked her to. i think that's nice.

this was the final project for my beginning drawing class. we all had to draw a picture of ourselves in the styles of four other artists: pierre-auguste renoir, vincent van gogh, pablo picasso, and m. c. escher.

pierre-auguste renoir. it was graphing week, so in addition to capturing the realism of renoir's paintings, this one had to be graphed. i free-handed on all the other ones.

vincent van gogh. i listened to vincent by don mclean while i drew this.

m. c. escher. i had no idea how to do this when i started out, but by the time i was finished, i had a hard time putting down my sharpie. i think it's my favorite of the four.

pable picasso. surprisingly, of all four drawings, this was the one i had the most difficulty with. trying to recreate a picasso painting with a pencil is like trying to recreate the eiffel tower with string cheese.

and of course, this is the picture that i based all the drawings on. it's from september. it makes me miss my blonde hair and my bangs.

amelia and josh came down from northern california for thanksgiving and they visited us before they went back. we took a picture walk in the fields. most of these are candid.

taken at amelia's request. lexi met amelia when they were in junior high, and despite some bumps, they've been friends ever since. back then, they went by alexis and millie. they took pictures all the time and i thought they were the coolest. i still think that.

i had the loveliest day ~~trespassing~~ hiking along a river with jonathan, mitch, jessica, emily, and lexi.

after the river, jonathan and i went to mitch's house where we watched some of submarine and jonathan taught me to play a song on the piano. then we left and i picked the music (hear my pickings above) while jonathan drove as recklessly as he could back to his house where we had garlic toast (which has become the norm for all my visits to his house) and we talked about hair dye and we played mash in his bedroom and we raked leaves in his backyard and i made a wreath for oliver james with the leaves and then jonathan and i got into a leaf fight, but we made up over freshly picked pomegranate seeds.
i picked up some film too; i'll scan it in tomorrow.

they didn't come out at all how i wanted them, and the more i look at them, the more things i notice that i wish i would have changed. if i decide to continue with the series, i would retake these for sure.
so that's about it for this roll. i have two shoots in the works and a roll to pick up, so hopefully i'll have some better pictures to show you guys soon. i'm sorry i've been kind of boring lately. all the photos i want to take are outnumbering the photos i'm able to take at the moment. in closing, i hope everybody has a happy halloween!

i woke up at six and i couldn't fall back asleep so i found a herd of sheep to count.

walking through thick fog into nothing is terrifying. after i entered the field i couldn't see anything but fog and the faint outline of a giant tree. i was just about to give up looking and turn home when i saw a little ball of wool to my left. a rather loud ball of wool with four legs.

the shepherd was so nice. he was herding his flock to a new location, but after he saw me taking pictures he tried to herd the sheep back around me.

probably one of the best drawings i've ever done, based on this photograph by george plemper. the picture itself is hard not to get lost in and i always find myself trying to decipher what the young girl is thinking. i hope my drawing has done it at least a little justice. mr. plemper's photos from the '70s and '80s have inspired me so much. i think one of the most moving moments i've had was looking through them and seeing not only the photo i chose to draw, but also spotting this picture, and reading the last comment below it. it makes me both happy and terribly nostalgic for something i've never known to see someone identify and describe someone in such a fond manner, despite the fact that he hadn't even seen him since grade school. wherever keith childs is, i hope he is still rebellious and a good mate.

i had the best day today wandering around venice with the lovely kelsey genna. she's such a sweetheart and has the best accent i've ever heard! i shot a roll of film so expect to see those pictures next week after i've taken them to get developed.

i also went to hollywood and walked to the capitol records building while it was pouring rain. i reached it just as it finished raining and practically wept in its presence. it is important for me to let you all know that it really does look like a stack of pancakes in person. the rainbow in this picture is obviously a divine symbol that i will one day work there.

here's a test roll i shot last month with a pentax k1000 that i picked up for $10 at a thrift store in santa cruz.

these first two pictures are of a project for 2D design. we had to use found objects to construct three dimensional sculptures based on a drawing that someone else made, and then draw our sculptures in crayon. i made this little garden piece out of fresh fruit and flowers borrowed from some of my neighbor's lawns. it lived in the fridge for a day before it was due, and then took up residence in one of the cubbies in the prop room while our teacher worked out our grades. he told us to take them home the next week but it was beginning to rot and leak orange juice, so i left it in the cubby where it stayed for a good four weeks before mysteriously going missing.

kessla and bryce in 2D design. i snuck pictures of both of them out of boredom. this test roll made me appreciate how quiet pentaxes are. my canon chirps like a bird and whenever i take a photo with it everyone in the room looks at me. anyways, kessla ended up dropping the class, which is a bummer because she was really talented. bryce sits next to me every single week and sometimes we talk and sometimes we don't, but i wish we talked more because i really like his voice. it's become a hobby of mine to secretly observe everything he writes in his sketchbook.

a labor day picnic at a pretty college campus in murrieta hot springs. i fell in love with at least fifteen of the college guys who walked past our picnic area.

watching the ruiz and spence boys fish. i helped them bait their poles with leftover hotdogs. once, they let me hold a fish, and i held it for two milliseconds before it jumped out of my hand into the sand and i screamed a little. fishing as a sport is so weird to me. i like watching other people do it, but i always feel a little bit sad for the fish. jesse told me that it doesn't hurt the little guys, but i don't know if i believe him.

some projects and homework from my first month of community college art classes. most of these were too big to scan so i had to photograph them instead. my apologies for the crummy quality.

this my introductory self portrait project for beginning drawing. we were supposed to incorporate drawings of things that had meaning to us around our self portraits. i didn't have time to finish mine, so just so you guys know, the circle in the background would have been a moon, the trees were going to be filled in, and the left side would have also had my bicycle and a unicorn. also, the brightness in the top right corner is just shine reflecting off the graphite. i went through an entire 8b pencil just filling the night sky in.

pen and ink homework packet for beginning drawing. i left the teacher's remarks on because i hate my far left tonal bars.

pen and ink project for beginning drawing. we had to draw a landscape and then draw a creative version of that landscape's shapes, so i went with a tenniel's alice in wonderland motif. i didn't get a chance to finish this one either (18"x24" is a lot of paper to fill!), but the teacher said it was finished enough for the critique.

this project for 2D design was kind of complicated. we had to cut out 6"x6" squares from our bristol pads and then use only non-representational shapes cut from black construction paper to make images that embodied seven words: calm, chaos, depressed, depth, dynamic, overwhelmed, and tense. the images are posted in that order above. overwhelmed took forever, especially since our hole punch is broken and i had to manually remove every single circle. i started to work on all of my squares right when i woke up and then lost track of time until seven at night. when i finally got up from the floor i felt so dizzy from the combination of staring at the patterns on an empty stomach and inhaling all the glue that i almost fainted. i definitely don't want to do a project like this again.

my drawing 101 teacher told us to bring sketchbooks with us wherever we go and practice drawing as much as we can. i went out and bought a teeny tiny 5" x 8" sketchbook to keep in my purse and i'm getting into the habit of pulling it out in between classes and work breaks to sketch portraits and doodle photo ideas. here are some drawings i've done this week:

p.s. if any of you come across a cool photo of anything and everything that you think might make a good drawing, i'd love to see it! i especially love drawing really neat portraits of awesome people (i.e. kurt cobain, syd barrett, andrew vanwyngasm--ahem, garden...) and heck, you can even send me pictures you took yourself and pretend that you are someone else sending me them so that you don't seem narcissistic. just make sure they're big enough for me to print them at 5" x 7". obviously, i can't draw every picture, but i really am always looking for interesting things to add to my to draw folder.

some charcoal drawings i did way back in june. i was working on a series of portraits of fab folks from the swinging sixties. i kind of stopped working on them after our car accident as the weight of the giant sketchbook was hurting my knee. i'll have to start up again soon because i still have at least twenty more people that i was planning on drawing for the series.

we got there at seven in the morning which i thought was early until i found out that some people camped out overnight! while waiting to get in i spotted these cookies that someone made for the band. they were labeled "more acid cookies", in reference to something andrew said at about 3:14 in this video:

surfer blood opening for mgmt at the us open of surfing. both bands were absolutely fantastic live! this was my first real concert and it exceeded all expectations. the only thing that made me sad was that i wasn't able to actually meet any of the band members. hopefully i'll get to someday! i might be going to another surfer blood show in september, so who knows?

i just got my film back from the surfer blood/mgmt concert and luckily enough, i only had about four or five bad shots out of the three 24 exposure rolls i shot! i am going to try to find the time to scan some in today, but for now, here is an instax i took of john paul pitts in the pits. he jumped down off the stage and played the guitar while leaning against the crowd! it was so cool.

i didn't make this video, but at about the 5:50 mark, you can kind of see what was going on when i took the picture:

also, i'd like to note that i was going to take an instax of ben and andrew during the millisecond that they stood together on the stage right in the very front of me, but just when i was about to press the button, some complete douche bag drunk guy stuck his iphone out and blocked my camera. so, unfortunately, no instax photos of any of the guys from mgmt are in my collection :(

my temporary cat that i named rigby on account of i didn't know whether it was a she or a he. we found rigby hanging around our house for a couple days before we left on our road trip. i fed rigby milk and tuna fish and rigby slept on the porch in our rocking chair. when we came back the neighbors told us that rigby got hit by a car and had to have surgery. poor rigby :(

okay, kiddos. i lost access to my scanner two weeks back, but i finally gained access to it again. and you wanna know something funny? over that time i accumulated a good 200-250+ photos to scan. basically my entire summer! i have pictures of my paul mccartney tea party, my temporary cat, my trip to nor-cal, my shoot with taylor's little sisters, my visit to venice, my week at san onofre for summer camp, my 3d roll, my disposable roll, AND MOST EXCITINGLY OF ALL, i have three rolls to pick up next week from my little stint as concert photographer at the us open of surfing. that's right people, an entire roll of film devoted to andrew vanwyngarden's face exists, and it's in my possession! well, kind of. i dropped it off at walmart today, but i think it still counts. i just hope nothing went wrong and all the pictures come out good. i'll cry if they don't! pretty please cross your fingers and toes for me. but anyways, back on subject, what i'm trying to say is that i'm going to have to haul ass to the computer and find the time to scan and post all. these. pictures. and that is going to take so much time! to hold you over while i get to work, here are the pictures from my paul party:

note the paul confetti! i must have printed at least a thousand tiny pictures of his face just to make it all. i am very proud of this fact!

pin the 'stache on pepper paul right before we played it. i made it myself with some construction paper.

and probably my favorite of all: the sweater tribute. i came up with this at the last minute, but i liked it so much that i found it upon myself to take two pictures! not only that, but my mom liked them too. she let me leave them up in our dining room for three whole weeks!

during spring break, lexi and i visited our friends sunday and chris in palm desert. we went to gypsyland, drove through a sandstorm, and saw the aquabats at the gas station. it was a good time.

everyone should go follow sunday's alan rickman blog. it's fantastic!

roll two of the three i picked up last week. these were all taken in february/march/april with my minolta x-700. the back of the camera is loose and i forgot to tape it so a lot of these pictures have terrible light leaks. i don't really like this roll much and after i finish the current roll in my minolta i probably won't be using it again unless i take it to the shop to get fixed.

it's my birthday today and now i'm sixteen.

i've been debating whether to hop the fence and take better pictures of this camper for two years now. i just love it so much. it's kind of strange, but i keep tabs on all of my favorite trinkets and items around my neighborhood. i like to check on them and bring flowers to leave in fence slots and tree branches so i can see when my last visit was.

i recently discovered that i had two exposures left in my favorite polaroid 600 camera. i thought they'd be expired beyond use as they've been in that camera for over a year now, but to my surprise, they actually turned out fine.

mad libs from summer, a flower wreath i made at camp, some berries lexi and gabrielle picked, and a little bunch of mushrooms i found while out walking in january.

today is also the birthday of one of my very favorite albums. i started this thing last year where it's the first record i listen to when i wake up on my birthday.

just a rough sketch of kurt cobain made out of boredom yesterday. graphite pencil plus black english tea stains on normal sketch paper with organic sugar sprinkled on top.

walmart raised the price of film development again. it was only by a dollar and ten cents per roll, but it just made me want to cry. it sort of sucks having all these ideas because my ideas have become more mature and advanced which makes executing them a lot harder. i just feel so unhappy right now. i wish i knew more people who could help me, or that i actually had a job at a magazine. i can't get a job in my town. i can't drive a car. i don't have the props, money, models, locations. it's like i have all the pattern pieces, but not enough fabric and thread to actually bring anything together. and i'm not good at anything else. i'm not good at being a teenager. i guess i'm overreacting, but i really can't say without embarrassment how many nights i've spent these past few weeks just lying in my bed and feeling sad that i'm not going anywhere. and it's like i've done so much and tried so hard and spent so much money on film and cameras and i haven't really got much to show for it. nothing tangible, at least. i'm sorry guys. this wasn't meant to be so long and whiny, i just don't have anyone i feel comfortable talking to. i went to therapy twice in the summer but i hated it and lied my way out. i just don't want my family to worry about me. because i'm fine, i really am.

last night i dreamed that i looked outside my window,
into our little backyard,
and there was a pure white bunny sleeping in the grass,
with a nose shaped like a heart.
so i went to the fridge and i came back with a carrot,
and she hopped upon the window sill and of course began to eat it.
when she was finished, she hopped into my room,
then she looked around and told me that she liked how it was decorated.
i asked if she would like to stay,
and maybe be my bunny,
and she said that if i really wanted her,
then she would like to stay with me.
i tied a ribbon around her neck
and decided to call her pagoda,
i took her for a walk in our neighborhood
and we went for ice cream sodas.
it took me a while to remember that most rabbits cannot talk,
but once i remembered, i looked down at her and i asked her how she was speaking.
she hopped two times, smiled up at me and with a twinkle in her eye, replied--
