my drawing 101 teacher told us to bring sketchbooks with us wherever we go and practice drawing as much as we can. i went out and bought a teeny tiny 5" x 8" sketchbook to keep in my purse and i'm getting into the habit of pulling it out in between classes and work breaks to sketch portraits and doodle photo ideas. here are some drawings i've done this week:
p.s. if any of you come across a cool photo of anything and everything that you think might make a good drawing, i'd love to see it! i especially love drawing really neat portraits of awesome people (i.e. kurt cobain, syd barrett, andrew vanwyngasm--ahem, garden...) and heck, you can even send me pictures you took yourself and pretend that you are someone else sending me them so that you don't seem narcissistic. just make sure they're big enough for me to print them at 5" x 7". obviously, i can't draw every picture, but i really am always looking for interesting things to add to my to draw folder.
you can email them to me anonymously or not at thedarlingchild@yahoo.com.
also, this is not an invitation for you to send me your myspace pictures. please don't.

some charcoal drawings i did way back in june. i was working on a series of portraits of fab folks from the swinging sixties. i kind of stopped working on them after our car accident as the weight of the giant sketchbook was hurting my knee. i'll have to start up again soon because i still have at least twenty more people that i was planning on drawing for the series.
p.s. they were too big to scan so i had to photograph them, hence the icky quality/out-of-focus-ness.

out of curiosity, would anyone be interested in seeing my practice drawings and art class projects? they're not much, but i've been doing quite a few and i thought i'd start uploading them here during the semester... which brings up the fact that i always wonder how much of my artwork is worth sharing, or even if it's worth sharing at all. so if nobody is interested to see them, i'd rather not spam you guys.
also, happy labor day! i hope you all wear white while you can! i don't want to see anybody spontaneously combust in the streets tomorrow because they didn't get all their white wearing in for the year and had to wear it after labor day.

taylor and i took the beach bus to oceanside in july. here are some pictures:
vintage sanctuary, in all it's musty old glory. we walked fifteen blocks just to get there.
taylor trying on shaun cassidy's face at potpourri vintage.
a little bit of me and a lot a bit of burt. can we just take a minute to appreciate his mustache? ooh la la. anyways, i think this store was my favorite. if only i could remember its name...
little dani was playing with my camera. she seemed curious about the shutter button so i was showing her what happened when i pressed it.

DO NOT POST THESE PICTURES ANYWHERE ELSE OR USE THEM TO MAKE COLLAGES OR GRAPHICS.
we got there at seven in the morning which i thought was early until i found out that some people camped out overnight! while waiting to get in i spotted these cookies that someone made for the band. they were labeled "more acid cookies", in reference to something andrew said at about 3:14 in this video:

mgmt's sound check guy, whom the crowd affectionately nicknamed "mickey mouse".
from their set:
andrew with his little whistle/pipe/flute/whatever it is he's blowing into.
andrew examining a bra that a girl threw at him.
matt was positioned right behind ben and his keyboard, so the only time i was able to photograph him was when they were all walking off the stage.
i made these with my psychedelic printer.
